The School

Francis Bacon School is a mixed 11–18 foundation comprehensive school and specialist college in mathematics and ICT, with outstanding computing facilities. There are currently around 900 students on roll with planned growth over three years. A new sports hall has been added.

Sports Hall

The sports hall building includes a dance studio and gym above, adjoining an outdoor swimming pool. It is generously sized and is fully equipped for basketball at competition level. There is also an activities studio and viewing balcony. Girls' basketball has been a key feature of the school and teams have made a clean sweep of the Hertfordshire cups in all age groups from U13 to U19 in many of the last few years.

Heating

The heating system includes condensing boilers for the lowest possible energy use. Radiant panels heat the hall itself, and radiators are used elsewhere. The boilers also provide heat for the swimming pool, which raises the overall condensing efficiency.

Lighting

Uniformity is maintained and glare is minimised by the arrangement of high bay lighting used within the hall.
